For those of you who know me well, you are probably already familiar with my Spotify playlists and my tendency to self-promote them. To fill the rest of you in, I enjoy making playlists that are representative of particular periods of my life. I find it a fun way to commemorate different times, feelings, and moods. It's also special to be able to look back and transport yourself through the music to these different moments and memories.
[DISCLAIMER: I'm not saying my playlists are any good, I, personally, like them and enjoy making them.]
It all began the summer after I graduated high school with the playlist "ablazkicksaz" which consisted of senior party bangers and was my go to that summer ~pick up the phone, baby~
Then came freshman year and "lfg but chill too", a playlist perfect for those fun but also chill moments, and "roll thru" which pretty much screamed freshmen pregame.
During the winter of my sophomore year, I served as the Chair of Sunshine and Music in my sorority. What that means, I still don't really know. But one of the things I did was make a playlist, "18Wheresthesun", consisting of every happy, sunny song I could think of.
Sophomore spring brought "Vamos Chicas" as I spent the term living in Cartagena, Colombia and discovered my love for reggaetón, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, and, of course, was obsessed with JB's Despacito.
Sophomore summer and junior fall were commemorated by "shenannies".
"19SuperSillySongs" was my junior spring it's time to get silly playlist.
Most recently, I've been rotating between the playlists "Retrograde Szn" for when Mercury is getting the best of you, "riding the bus" for those long hauls, and "Things we did. That" played in preparation of rogue-ness.
Making a playlist is a very therapeutic process for me and with all this time on my hands, it seemed like a very fitting activity. So, if you're in need of some slow, relaxing, depressy tunes to vibe with during these dark times? Fear not, I've got you covered:
Hot take -- "When She Loved Me" is the best song in a Toy Story movie!
